If a payment doesn't go through

For everyone

Cards expire, banks flag charges, autopay hiccups happen. Here's exactly what happens if a renewal charge doesn't go through.

This only applies to a renewal on an account that was already active and paying. A failed first payment at sign-up never creates a subscription, so a new free trial or first purchase isn't affected.

What happens right away

Nothing about your account changes the moment a charge fails. Your plan, team, and listings keep working while Stripe automatically retries the card, plus a grace window on top before anything changes.

The business owner (or you, if you're a seeker) gets a notification and an email with the exact date of the next retry and which attempt it is, pulled from Stripe's own schedule. The same date shows in a banner across the app, and in full on your Billing page, along with how many days you have left and what you'd lose if it isn't resolved. Team members who aren't the owner see a heads-up pointing them to the owner.

Making it right

  1. Update your card. One click from Billing opens Stripe's secure portal to add a new card or fix the one on file. The next retry picks it up automatically.
  2. Switch to Free. No charge, no hassle. You keep your account, jobs or applications, and history, some limits just come back until you upgrade again.

If it's never resolved

Hire30A sets a grace period, shown on Billing as the days you have left. If the card still can't be charged by the end of it, your account moves to Free on its own. Nothing is deleted, and you can go back to a paid plan anytime.
